Margao: Be on guard against becoming fanatics. A fanatic is a person who does not change her opion, come what may, and does not allow you to change the topic, Justice Mahesh Sonak, Judge of Bombay High Court at Goa said.
Justice Sonak was addressing the inaugural lecture of GRK-Law Talks organised by G R Kare College of Law, Margao.
“Be on guard against becoming fanatics. A fanatic is a person who does not change her opinion, come what may, and does not allow you to change the topic, come what may,” he said.
Justice Sonak said “usually, these are products of a very closed mind. A closed mind is not conducive to legal practice.”
“In law, we emphasise much on the principles of natural justice. One of the most important principles is that a person must be heard before any adverse order is made against her. Now, hearing, or at any rate, an effective hearing, cannot be with open ears but a closed mind. That would be no hearing at all, what would be a presence of hearing or an empty formality.”
