Porvorim: The opposition benches on Thursday created ruckus on the floor of the House during ongoing assembly session over the arrest of Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte.

Khaunte was arrested on Wedneday mid night by Porvorim police following complaint against him by BJP Goa spokesman Premanand Mahambrey. The BJP leader had accused the MLA of threatening him in the assembly complex.

When the assembly met for the day on Thursday, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat questioned why Speaker Rajesh Patnekar gave his assent to the arrest of the member.

The opposition benches were wearing black badges on their shoulders on the floor.

Kamat said that when alleged incident happened, senior Congress leader Pratapsingh Rane was accompanying Khaunte.

“How did you permit the arrest without holding proper inquiry,” he questioned.

The speaker said that whatever he has done is as per the rules.

Goa Forward Party MLAs led by Vijai Sardesai, MGP MLA Sudin Dhavalikar, Khaunte and Congress members rushed to the well of the House as Speaker called for the Question Hour.

The House was adjourned till 12 noon.

When the House assembled again, the opposition benches continued their protest forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till 12.30 noon.
