AITUC commemorates centenary foundation day

Panaji: The All India Trade Union Congress on Saturday its celebrated its centenary of foundation day at Azad Maidan in Panaji. Putting forth the demands of the committee, General secretary of AITUC (Goa) Christopher Fonseca, who was present on the occasion, raised few of the issues faced by the people of Goa.
Talking about the mining controversy, Fonseca stated that the government should start mining on a sustainable manner and ensure full benefits of mining to all stakeholders and the people of state. Fonseca also demanded to control prices of essential commodities, protect the self employed including public transport operators, small scale industries, vegetable and fish vendors, artisans.
Keeping in mind the difficulties faced by employers Fonseca said, “Minimum wages for all schedule of employment should be at Rs 20000 w.e.f. January 1. Abolish contract Labour system in all perennial and permanent job operations in government and private is establishment. Schemes like National Employability Enhancement Mission (NEEM) and National Employability Apprenticeship Program (NEAP) should be abolished are designed to exploit and to deny permanent employment.”
Social security for all organized and unorganized workers, minimum pension of Rs 10,000 for all citizens, homes to homeless and strict action against corporate defaulters were among the other demands put forth by the AITUC.
