Panaji: All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Monday appointed former State Power Minister Aleixo Sequeira as the Working President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), while retaining Girish Chodankar as the President of the state unit.
Party’s National General Secretary K C Venugopal, in an order issued on Monday, made various appointments in the state, which is heading for Assembly Elections in February, 2022.
Chodankar, who had resigned from the post of GPCC President, last year, after the party’s humiliating defeat for Zilla Panchayat election, has been retained on the same post. His resignation was not accepted by the party high command.
Through the order, the party has also continued former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat as the Leader of Opposition in Goa Legislative Assembly.
The campaign committee is headed by Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco while former State Minister Sangita Parab is co-chairperson of the committee.
South Goa Member of Parliament Francis Sardinha is appointed as Chairperson of the Finance Committee while woman leader Pramoda Salgaoncar as Co-chairperson of the committee.
Former Member of Parliament Ramakant Khalap is a Chairperson of the manifesto committee while former bureaucrat Elvis Gomes has been appointed as a co-chairperson.
The order came days after AICC Goa Desk in-charge for elections, P Chidambaram, visited the coastal state to prepare strategy for the next election.
