Panaji: Goa Police on Tuesday arrested members of the gang from Kochi and Jaipur who had befriended a Japanese tourist and robbed him in Goa earlier this year.
Superintendent of Police (North) Nidhin Valsan told reporters on Tuesday that two accused were arrested from Jaipur while another was from Kochi.
A Japanese national had filed complaint through email to North Goa Superintendent of Police on February 13, 2023 informing that he was robbed by a gang during his holiday in Goa.
He had said that the two members of the gang initially befriended him and then staged a drama of a police raid and robbed him of the credit card. Valsan said that Rs nine lakhs were withdrawn from his credit card.
The SP said that the incident was reported in the jurisdiction of Anjuna Police station. After filing a formal FIR at Anjuna police station, Goa Police formed four different teams including that of Crime Branch officials who went to Kochi, Chennai and Jaipur in search of the accused.
Valsan said that two accused (who befriended the victim) were arrested from their native place of Hasanpur, Jaipur while third one was arrested at Kochi.
All the three accused are being brought to Goa on a transit remand.
The SP said that there is a mastermind behind the entire crime, who would be arrested soon.
