Panaji: Aam Admi Party (AAP) on Monday said that they are not averse of accepting “good people” from other political backgrounds, provided they are non corrupt, without criminal background and not communal.
AAP’s Delhi MLA Atishi, who is down in Goa to strengthen party’s base, said that the party wants to win the upcoming 2022 assembly election here after emerging as an alternative to Congress and BJP.
The Kalkaji MLA said that the party has not shut its door for the “good people” from other political parties.
“We have always said that our doors are open for good people from other political parties. It would be arrogant to say that good people are there only in AAP,” she said.
“There are lot of good people in other political parties too, there are good people who often have found that they are not happy with the culture that exists in their political party,” Atishi said.
The AAP leader said that the party has been very clear about basic criteria. “We will never have someone who has background of corruption, criminal or communal.”
“We are open for leaders and volunteers from other political parties. Those who have fought people’s issue,” she said.
AAP leader said that the party’s defeat in 2017 Goa assembly election has left behind lessons to be learnt.
“From Goa experience, what we learnt is that we did not had grass root organization during 2017 polls. The campaign of the party was talked about and there was a public support. Because we did not had grass root organization, we could not built on the support,” she said.
AAP had contested on 39 out of 40 assembly constituencies but had lost deposits in majority of the seats for 2017 Goa polls.
“ We don’t think it was a mistake to contest on 39 seats. We wanted to pass on AAP message to everyone. Political party is a voice of the people. Unless you reach to the people how would you know their grievance of the people,” she commented.
