33 per cent of smart city works completed in Goa: CM

Panaji: Chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that only 33 per cent of the works of Smart City are completed in the state.

Sawant was targeted by the opposition benches during ongoing monsoon session of Goa legislative assembly on Thursday over the incomplete works of smart city.

Raising the issue on the floor of the House, Goa Forward Party MLA Vijai Sardesai had demanded judicial inquiry into smart city works. The opposition benches including Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao also demanded setting up of House Committee to investigate into the sub standard works of smart city.

Responding to the volley of questions, Sawant said that only 33 percent of the works of Smart city are completed, which are worth Rs 335 crore.

The capital city of Panaji has been selected under Smart City Mission projects.

He said that the city will “look like a smart city” once hundred per cent of the works are completed.

The chief minister agreed that there were issues in implementation of projects under smart city during initial phases.

He said that the complaint has been filed against smart city officials against state vigilance department, which are being inquired.

He said that the contractors who have failed to complete the works as per expectations are also issued show cause notices.
