Saligao: Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar commissioned the work of beautifying surroundings of Mae De Deus Church at Saligao costing Rs 2.72 crore.
Housing the miraculous statue of Mae de Deus (Mother of God) this church in Saligao stands as one of the finest examples of the neo-gothic style of architecture.
The church is situated in the amazing surroundings of the typical Goan countryside giving it the look of a castle from a fairy tale.
Salgaonkar said that he with the help of Fr. Mathew Parish Council, Sarpanch Lafira Remedios Gomes, Dy Sarpanch Daya Mandrekar, ward members Deepak Rane, Shradha Borkar, Jack Coelho, Nandu Harmalkar, Kalpana Eknath Oraskar, Dayanand Kudnekar and Lucas Remedios of Saligao Panchayat have made an attempt to beautify the surrounding s of the church by getting Rs (2,72,64,095/- ) Rs Two Crore seventy two lakh sixty four thousand and ninety five.
He said that approved work has started and we shall finish the work much before
the first Sunday of May to celebrate the Feast of Mae de Deus in Saligao.
Meanwhile, Salgaonkar has also started work of restoring Salmona spring at the cost of Rs 90 lakh.
