Panaji: Corporation of City of Panaji Mayor Uday Madkaikar said that he will be holding meeting with TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai and Goa Forward Party leader Babush Monserratte to expedite the process of regularizing 200 daily wage workers from the urban body.

Madkaikar is Mayor representing GFP leader Monserratte backed panel.

The Mayor said that around 200 daily wage workers are waiting for their regularization in services for last 15 years.

Their file is moved to the State government but it needs push. “I have started to locate the file and then will hold meeting with TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai and our leader Babush Monserratte to expedite the process of their regularization,” he said.

Madkaikar said that the attempts is to ensure that workers are regularized by June this year.

The Mayor said that Babush has been sensitive about issues of the workers and has been following this matter.

“These workers earn less than Rs 9,000 a month and some of them are reaching the age of retirement. It is our duty to regularize them and provide decent salary,” he said.

Madkaikar said that the financial burden which will arise after regularization of the workers will be borne half by the State government.

“We will have to bear 50 per cent of their wages which means we will have to pay 10 per cent extra than what we are paying,” he said.
