Panaji: Goa University Student council election which was scheduled to be held today has been postponed by the Goa University following ruckus during the conduct of election.
The new dates for elections are yet to be announced.
ABVP, in a press statement issued, has alleged that the elections are postponed due to political pressure and tactics employed by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).
The elections were to be contested between ABVP panel and the BJYM panel. ABVP had strongly condemned the use of political power and political sponsorship in student elections.
ABVP declares that they were in the winning position having support of more than 40 UFR’s out of 78 and today morning when ABVP panel along with its voters and other activists had proceeded towards University, it was telephonically informed by Director of Students welfare (DSW) at 10:30 am that the election has been adjourned and the next date will be conveyed shortly.
“It is clear that the Goa university has bowed down to political pressure of BJYM and postponed the election. Having realised the severe defeat, the BJYM did not have the courage even to face the election,” they said.
ABVP has appealed to the Governor of Goa Dr Mridula Sinha and also to Ministry of Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar to look into the matter and take strict action against the authorities of Goa University.
ABVP also demands that the decision of the Goa University to postpone the election, be absolutely illegal and arbitrary, is required to be quashed and further the entire election process for the year 2019-20 is required to be cancelled.
