Severe water crisis grips Panaji and other areas of Tiswadi, Ponda

Panaji: Several areas in the state including capital city of Panaji went without water for the second day on Friday after a pipeline supplying water to these places busted near Ponda town, 40 kms away from here.

State chief minister Pramod Sawant, in the afternoon, held review meeting to oversee the situation in Tiswadi and Ponda talukas where the taps ran dry due to busting of pipeline.

He said that state public works department officials were working on war footing to repair the pipeline so that the water supply can be restored.

The pipeline bringing water to these talukas from Opa Water Works near Ponda town busted due to landslide as a result of heavy rains that the state has been witnessing.

Panaji MLA Atanasio Monserratte said that the entire capital city went dry on Friday forcing the people to depend on the water supply from the tankers. He said that several hundred tankers were being arranged to provide water to the citizens.
