Panaji: State forest department on Friday suspended two forest guards for asking bribe from a businessman in Mapusa town, 9 kms away from here.

State Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane told reporters in Panaji that two forest guards — Sandeep Mandrekar and Prasad Teli — were placed under suspension after Mapusa based businessman Pritesh Desai filed complaint against them.

Rane said that the complaint mentioned that both the forest guards had asked for a bribe to clear file of Desai.
“As soon as we received the complaint, we have placed both the guards under suspension pending inquiry. We are not going to tolerate any corruption in the department,” the minister said.

He said that if any official is found to be involved in corruption, he would be dismissed from the services, after following due process of law.
