Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that the Churches and Temples in the state will not be covered under the ambit of the law banning music after 10 pm.

The opposition parties had demanded that the Act related to noise pollution in the state be modified allowing smooth organization of festival like Christmas.

Sawant told reporters on Tuesday evening that the Churches and Temples would not be affected with the Act.

“(State) Environment Minister (Nilesh Cabral) has already made it clear that the Temples and Churches will not be affected by the Act related to noise pollution,” the chief minister said.

On Tuesday, Goa Forward Party, which is in opposition, had demanded that the festival like Christmas and traditional festivals be exempted from the Act.

Sardesai had tweeted “RELAX SOUND RESTRICTIONS NOW! With #Christmas around the corner, and with #Goemkars celebrating marriages and traditional festivals, @DrPramodPSawant @GovtofGoa must stop equating #Goan social and cultural events with rave parties, and exempt them from the sound ban forthwith!”
