Margao: Swaramanch Margao, with a rich legacy spanning over sixty years, stands as the oldest institution in Salcette taluka dedicated to imparting education in Indian classical music. In commemoration of the organization’s 60-year milestone, a series of high-quality competitions and music programs are slated for the year.

The inaugural event, scheduled for February 25 at 5:00 PM in the conference hall of Rabindra Bhavan, Madgao, pays tribute to the late Dr. Somnath Prabhudesai. Titled “Gomant Gandharva” (Exploration of Soulful Singing), the Marathi Bhav Geet competition is organized in collaboration with Ravindra Bhavan Margao.

A highlight of the competition is the presence of renowned music composer Shri Ashokji Patki, hailed as the King of Melody in Marathi Bhavsangeet, who will provide valuable guidance to the participating students.

The competition will feature Marathi Bhav Sangeet songs, rooted in Indian classical music and accompanied by traditional Indian percussion instruments. Participants, exclusively aged between 14 and 40 years, stand a chance to win substantial cash prizes: Rs. 7000 for the first prize, Rs. 5000 for the second prize, Rs. 4000 for the third prize, and a special cash prize of Rs. 2000, along with a memento. Prior to the prize distribution ceremony, Mr. Ashok Pataki will conduct a half-hour program, offering insights on expressions, words, and diction during singing.

The organization will support contestants, and the preliminary round is scheduled for Sunday, February 4, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Swaramanch Madgaon, Comba, near Coco Cola Depot. Organizers emphasize that the decision of the examiners will be deemed final, and further details can be obtained by contacting Yatin Talaulikar on 9225901720.
