Panaji: The Supreme Court today issued notice to the Speaker of Goa legislative Assembly in petition filed by ex- President of Goa Pradesh Congress committee, Mr. Girish Chodankar.
The petition was filed by Mr. Chodankar on account of the failure of the Speaker to decide the disqualification petition filed against the 8 INC MLA’s who have defected from the party in month of September 2022.
The petition was filed on account of the fact that despite High Court in its judgement dated 02.05.2023 having recorded that Speaker will decide the disqualification petition expeditiously and follow the keisam meghachandra Singh judgment which lays down the law that disqualification petitions have to be decided within 3 months, the disqualification petition has not proceeded any further and infact till date even notices have not been issued in the matter.
The petition came up before the bench comprising of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and justice S. V. N Bhatti, who were pleased to issue notices to respondents and asked to file their reply.
