SOMI Goa Unit to Host Day-Long Symposium; Rane Congratulates Organizers

Panaji: The Society of Midwives India (SOMI), Goa unit, will collaborate with the National SOMI to host a one-day symposium on “Essential Newborn Care,” a midwives’ initiative, on December 20 at Sub-District Hospital, Ponda.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, while congratulating the members of the SOMI Goa unit for such an initiative, urged midwives, nurses, and other concerned individuals in Goa to participate in large numbers. There are 6000 midwives registered in Goa.

He emphasized that such initiatives would benefit the community in general and midwives in particular. Rane affirmed that the state government fully supports initiatives that contribute to societal welfare.

Dr. Vasantkumari S, a member of SOMI, mentioned that the symposium would feature SOMI executive members, providing valuable insights for nurses and midwives. She is the Principal of Shree Bhumika Nursing College, Parye.

Dr. Vasantkumari explained that the main objective of SOMI is to assist mothers and promote child welfare. She added that SOMI’s goal is to strengthen the role of midwives in every state.

She also noted that SOMI now has a unit in Goa, which will be converted into a full-fledged chapter within the next 2-3 months.

In addition to Dr. Vasantkumari, other experts participating in the symposium include Mrs. Avita Fernandes, Dr. Lynet Fernandes, Ms. Ekta Karkal, and Dr. Vinda Arlekar.
