St Cruz: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday appealed to people to celebrate this Diwali with ‘swadeshi’ spirit by shunning foreign goods and promoting Indian products, saying such a collective resolve by 140 crore citizens would help the country realise its dream of becoming “mahan” (supreme).
Shah was addressing a public meeting near Panaji held to inaugurate various developmental projects including ambitious “Mhaje Ghar” scheme of Pramod Sawant-led government to give ownership rights.
Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant, Union minister and North Goa MP Shripad Naik, Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade and other ministers were present on the dais.
Addressing the crowd, Shah recalled that on the eve of Navaratri, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reduced the GST on 395 products by one third which is benefitting the citizens of the country in a big way.
“The GST has been reduced to nil on several essential food items. It has been reduced to five percent on daily essentials,” the Union Home minister said.
He lauded that since India’s Independence till now, no one dared to introduced such a tax cut on Sales tax or GST, which PM Narendra Modi could do.
“That is why this Deepali will be auspicious for all the Indians,” he commented.
Shah said that the PM has also urged for one more thing. “This Deepawali we have to resolve that not a single foreign item would be used during this Dipawali, unless it is absolutely necessary,” he said.
The BJP leader said that if 140 crore population and the traders decide that they will use only Swadeshi products or sell Indian products in their stores or in the malls, then Bharat will achieve a dream of becoming supreme (Mahan) in no time.
“There is nothing bigger than being self sufficient,” he said.
Shah said that the country can also address the issue of unemployment in the country by giving momentum to our economy, Make In India and by inviting people from the world to manufacture in India.
