Sattari: The farmers, senior citizens, and well known citizens of Sattari, on Sunday, held a special meeting onIIT project issue and the long pending issue of ownership of Alvara and Kumeri lands.

Around 200 hundreds people were presence for the meeting which was held at Sateri Temple in Velus village.

The locals from all villages of Sattari have decided to support Shel Melauli villagers in opposing the IIT project which is proposed in Shel Melauli village. Locals from all villages of Taluka will be held a signature campaign against the IIT project and will submit the around 20 thousands signatures of locals to the Government against the IIT project.

Speaking in the meeting, Advocate Ganapat Gaonkar said that the Goa Government has totally failed in providing the ownership of Alvara and Kumeri lands.

“We have submitted many representations and memorandums to the government regarding the ownership of Alvara and Kumeri land. The last year all the Alvara land holders from across the State had submitted the files to the government for the ownership of alvara land,” he pointed out.

“The Government has failed in providing the ownership of alvara land. We demand to the government to give the ownership of alvara land and that is in  class ‘A’ category,” he added.

Another local, Rajesh Gaonkar said that the 90 percent people of Sattari don’t have the ownership of their own land where they are living and cultivating the agriculture crops since past five generations.

“This is a time that the government to give them the ownership,” he added.

Social Activist Ranjitsingh Rane said that if government failed in providing the ownership of Alvara land in coming days, then they will come out on road in large number against the Pramod Sawant led government.

He said that the government will also see the impact during Zilla Panchayat and Municipal Council elections.
