Panaji: Bharatiya Janata Party has been facing criticism from the opposition parties after it inducted controversial son of a former State Home minister in its party fold on Thursday.

Roy, son of former state Home Minister and current Congress MLA, joined BJP on Thursday in presence of state unit President Sadanand Shet Tanavade.

Former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, during his stint as Leader of Opposition in the year 2010, had demanded Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry against Roy’s links with drug paddlers.

When asked, Tanavade on Thursday said that his party never alleged role of Roy Ravi Naik into drug paddling. “Show me one instance where we had said that it was Roy Ravi Naik. We had said Roy Naik, it can be any Roy Naik,” the Goa BJP Chief commented during a press conference held to announce entry of Roy in the party.

The opposition parties reacted strongly after Tanavade’s statement.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President  Girish Chodankar tweeted “The pandemic has resulted in a cleaner environment. Bright future of @INCGoa clearly visible. Insecurity is rife in @BJP4Goa. As @goacm @DrPramodPSawant was confused between Corona and Covid, @ShetSadanand muddled between Roy Naik and Roy Ravi Naik. Goans will explain in 2022.”

Roy was named in the House Committee report prepared by a committee headed by then tourism minister Francisco Miccky Pacheco which had investigated the links between politicians-drug paddlers and policemen.

Goa Forward party vice president Durgadas Kamat tweeted “CM@DrPramodPSawant was confused between #Corona and #Covid. @BJP4Goa President confused between Roy Naik and Roy Ravi Naik.”
