Panaji: Goa’s youngest regional political party – Revolutionary Goans – has given a notice to the Speaker of State Legislative Assembly to move Private Members’ Bill protecting the rights of “Persons of Goan Origin.”
The lone MLA of Revolutionary Goans, Viresh Borkar, told reporters in Panaji that the party has issued notice to the Speaker to move the private members’ bill during the Assembly session which will begin from July 10.
Borkar said that the Bill seeks to protect the rights of The Persons of Goan Origin in respect of employment, benefit of government schemes, lease, transfer of communidade land and their right to change their names and surnames.
The Bill seeks to give better and more protection to the Persons of Goan Origin in view of the late independence of Goa, limited education and employment opportunities for Goans, distinct culture, language, traditions, geographical area, peculiar socio-political and economic circumstances in the state affecting Goans and changing demography vis-à-vis the small size of the state and its population.
