Raisa Fernandes, Ashley Afonso emerge as joint winners of Parkonnem competition

Panajii: Raisa Fernandes from Vasco and Ashley Afonso from Porvorim were declared joint winners of this historic first of its kind iconic Goan Heritage competition- Parkonnem –Kitem Tem Sang – titled The C G Varkey Silver Rolling Heritage Trophy.
The Competition was organised by Chicalim Bio-Crusaders as an attempt to promote the heritage of Chicalim and Goa through this unique contest. The award function took place at the Chicalim Church on Thursday after the solemn feast mass of St Francis Xavier, the patron saint of the Chicalim Church.
Rev. Fr. Simao Fernandes, Director of the Pastoral Institute, Old Goa was the Chief Guest on the occasion and handed over the exquisite trophy to the joint winners. Rev. Fr. Bolmax Pereira, Parish Priest of Chicalim and Shri Francis Varkey were Special Guest respectively.
The first runners-up was Remedious Fernandes from Margao, second was Jacqueline Sequeira from Vasco, third was Mrs Fatima Fernandes from Alto-Chicalim, Fourth was Rina Fernandes from Betalbatim and fifth was Jovita De Souza from  Curtorim.
Cyril Fernandes dwelved upon the various features of the entire completion and its journey from beginning to end. Fernandes stated that this form of competition promoting the heritage of Chicalim and goa would continue in the future too with another edition of the ‘Parkonnim’ competition besides other heritage subjects.
Francis Varkey, Son of Late C. G. Varkey, in whose memory the competition had been named, thanked the Chicalim Bio-crusaders for offering to name the trophy in his father’s name. He recollected that their father used to love such ‘Parkonnim’ or riddles and used to often use them to tickle their young minds.
All participants of theis contest were awarded a 50% discount coupon sponsored by ‘NIRVANA-I LUV GOA’ besides each attendee at the awards function was handed over a micro-green sapling prepared by Mrs. Alka Damle. Vinny Fernandes, on behalf of Chicalim Bio-Crusaders offered the vote of thanks at the end of the function.
The contest was held through social media via Whatsapp and YouTube in view of the Covid-19 restrictions. The award event was similarly held with minimal human presence at the Chicalim church premises but streamed live on YouTube to reach the global Goan audience.
