Mopa: The prohibitory orders were issued after Superintendent of Police (North) Nidhin Valsan communicated to the district magistrate that “from the recent development, it appears that there is possibility that the taxi owners and villagers of Mopa, Warkhand, Nagzar and Chandel may gather in groups to show their displeasure and may create disturbances in the smooth functioning of Manohar International Airport which may further hamper the reputation of the state and country at international level, a senior police official said.
The official said that SP North in his communication to the District Magistrate that on December 24, 2023 , the taxi owners and locals of Pernem held meeting at Mona Airport police station on the issue of not providing authorised counter exclusive for Pernem taluka.
The police have pointed out that the taxi operators have opposed to the operation of App based taxi service at Mope airport. The report submitted by SP North to the District magistrate also mentions that “Taxi owners grieve that GMR and other companied located at Mona recommends the tourists arriving at the Airport to use the services of specific counters due to which the local taxi owners are financially suffering.”
Police have told the DM that the local land owners who had sacrificed their land for the functioning of Mopa airport are also demanding 80 per cent job promise given to them the government before functioning of the airport is not fulfilled.
The SP North has further informed the DM that taxi operators and villagers of Mopa, Warkhand, Nagzar and Chandel village are frequently gathering infront of Mopa Airport Gate with their demands, which causes traffic jams and causing inconvenience to the visitors.
