Panaji: Keeping in mind the threat to environment caused by plastic bags and put a check on it, the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has directed industrial units producing plastic carry bags or recycled plastic bags to register with the board within 30 days. Earlier, the GSPCB had imposed complete ban on manufacturing of plastic carry bags below 50 micron in the state.
Following directions from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to act against the defaulting units under the provisions of Plastic Waste Management Rules 2018 that includes closure of their operations and living environmental compensation, the GSPCB has issued a public notice.
The GSPCB in the notice issued on Tuesday stated that, “no unit can individual capturing of plastic carry bags or recycled plastic bags multi-layered packaging without registering with the GSPCB; no unit will manufacture plastic carry bags below 50 micron”.
The GPSCB was earlier asked to name the brand owners or producers of manufacturing carry bags or recycled plastic bags or multi-layered packaging units operating without registration from the GSPCBs. These units have now been asked to make necessary application for registration and consent under Water and Air Act within 30 days.
In a notice issued on September 10, the GSPCB has stated that “under Rule 13 (1) of Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016, no person shall manufacture carry bags or recycled plastic bags or multilayer packaging unless the person has obtained a registration from the SPCB on the Pollution Control Committee is of the UT, as the case may be, prior to the commencement of production”.
