Panaji: Several thousand households immersed Ganesh in different waterbodies on Sunday ending the two day long Chaturthi festival, which is observed in a major way in the coastal state.

The people were seen abiding by all the Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs) prescribed by the State government in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

The immersions were held in a staggered manner with few people immersing their Idol as early as 5 p.m to avoid the rush. There were no processions and only few members of the family went for the immersion.

At different places including that in Mapusa town, people had created artificial ponds, where the Idols were immersed.

The burning of fire crackers has also been banned in the SOP released by the government, due to which, the immersions were held without any noise pollution.
