Panaji: Newly sworn Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde received a grand welcome at the starred hotel after his arrival last night.
The Shiv Sena and Independent MLAs who were at the resort were waiting for the arrival of Shinde, after he took oath as chief minister in Mumbai on Thursday.
Shinde arrived at Goa Airport at 1 am by a special flight.
Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant was amongst those who greeted Shinde by visiting him at the resort.
Shinde-led MLAs were in a jubilant mood since evening when his name was announced as the next chief minister of the state. The MLAs who even performed dance in the lobby of the resort following the announcement were seen watching live telecast of the swearing-in ceremony on a big screen which was put up by resort management in one of its halls.
A group of MLA was also seen on a video before Shinde’s arrival, walking to the main gate of the resort, shouting slogans hailing Balasaheb Thackrey, late Anand Dighe and Eknath Shinde.
When Shinde arrived, lady MLAs, who are camping in the resort, gave traditional welcome to him, eye witnesses in the resort said.
Sources stated that Maharashtra Chief minister held impromptu meeting in the resort after his arrival, while he would be formally meeting the MLAs on Friday.
