Quepem: The Quepem Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal is widely known for its extravagant lottery prizes and commitment to transparency in their lottery draws. However, the Mandal has recently expanded its community service efforts by hosting a blood donation camp for the second year in a row.
This innovative initiative, which began last year, reflects the Mandal’s dedication to social welfare, a fundamental aspect of their community festivals. To facilitate the blood donation process and ensure a strong response, the Mandal introduced an online application system, through which the first 200 applicants were selected to participate in the blood donation camp and others through offline mode.
The camp, held on August 1, 2024, in collaboration with the Goa Medical College, received an incredible turnout of over 300 participants, despite being a regular working day and flooded in many parts of Goa. Notably, individuals of all religion irrespective of their cast and creed from Goa and neighboring states took part in this meaningful event.
Due to the overwhelming response, with more than 300 donors showing up, an additional 100 donors were scheduled for the following day, with assistance from Asilo Hospital in Mapusa. Moreover, the Mandal also provided Vouchers to Donors who will respond in emergency cases as Live Blood Donors , ensuring preparedness for future needs.
In recognition of the donors’ life-saving contributions, participants received coupons that allowed them to bypass the usual waiting queue and obtain two lottery books each on payment basis , as a token of appreciation. This year’s lottery prizes include an impressive lineup of twenty luxury cars and substantial cash rewards, adding extra excitement to the initiative.
The Quepem Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal’s decision to blend the thrill of their renowned Mahaprasad Pavati Coupons with the noble cause of blood donation underscores their commitment to addressing critical health needs while celebrating the community festival. This initiative exemplifies how traditions can evolve to benefit society in profound and meaningful ways as informed by Shri Ichit Phaldessai, Event Coordinator for the Blood Donation.
