Panaji: Light rainfall was witnessed in several parts of the coastal state on Sunday, ahead of the two-day-long Yellow Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) from Monday onwards.

Light rainfall was reported in parts of Sattari, Canacona, and Tiswadi talukas on Sunday, bringing respite from the prolonged heat and humidity in the coastal state. The capital city of Panaji also received showers on Sunday morning.

According to an IMD bulletin issued here on Saturday, the average temperature in Goa was around 34 degrees Celsius, which is four degrees higher than normal in the capital city of Panaji. The department stated that the humidity level in Panaji was 70 per cent.

The department has predicted heavy rainfall in several parts of the state on Monday and Tuesday (June 22–23), issuing a Yellow Alert for the coastal state, along with a warning to fishermen against venturing into the sea.

The IMD has predicted a gradual increase in rainfall over the next three to four days in the state.

The Goa government is monitoring the progress of the monsoon, as the state is left with less water in its reservoirs, which can sustain drinking water requirements for only about a month.
