Panaji : The High Court has come down heavily on the Government of Goa asking them to urgently remedy the situation. Petitioner Counsel Adv Nikhil Pai spoke to the media about today’s High Court Hearing on Covid 19 and Oxygen matter.
“Despite the orders passed yesterday, oxygen crunch was experienced, because of this the HC wanted to know how this happened. We had asked HC to make Oxygen suppliers parties to the dispute to ensure that there are no more oxygen related deaths” Said Adv Pai
“We are foreseeing and calculating the damage of the 3rd wave which is going to affect a significant population, before that we need all the necessary arrangements in place so that we can handle the 3rd wave effectively” informed Pai.
Today the HC was concerned about the Oxygen supply and deaths that took place due to the lack of it. The HC even slammed Dean of Goa Medical College Dr Shivanand Bandekar and told him to not go into a denial mode and to accept that the Oxygen problem has not been resolved.
“The Union Government has increased the LMO quota which will help in the severe oxygen crunch that we are facing” informed Adv Pai.
The HC has directed the state Government to notify about the progress that has taken place after all these hearings and to inform them by 14 May 2021. “One of the positive things that has come out is that the Government is going to discontinue with the trolley system of oxygen supply instead, they will supply Oxygen through LMO tanks, hence the fluctuation of Oxygen which was a problem earlier is resolved” , rejoiced Adv Pai.
“The issue of oxygen fluctuation happens when there is a switch over and this apparently happens every 25 mins but its maximum impact is faced during the night when there are 15-20 deaths, which is quite unfortunate” added Adv Pai.
“Definitely the High Courts intervention has set things in order and brought about more improvements in the health sector” concluded Adv Pai
