Panaji: With the current pace of economic surge, it would take at least fifteen years for the country to be five trillion US dollar economy, a senior Congress leader said on Friday.

All India Congress Committee Secretary Krishna Allavaru told reporters in Goa that it is a long distance dream for the country to become five trillion US dollar economy with the current pace of economic growth under Narendra Modi-led government.

He also said that the joblessness is at a 45 year all time high in the country with Central government failing to fetch new employment opportunities.

“We would like to ask government answers to few questions. Why is joblessness at a 45 year high,” the Congress leader said.

“This is a government that has enjoyed complete majority for more than five years. Inspite of that they have not been able to deliver jobs,” Allavaru stated.

He said that the joblessness is over six to nine percent. “This shows only one thing that PM Modi and the BJP government do not know how to give jobs to the people of the country,” he added.

Stating that the GDP growth has fallen to five percent, Allavaru said that the country has gone 14 year low growth rate.

“We talk of five trillion economy but it will take more than 15 years to get to that figure with growth of five per cent. So the PM should stop talking and start delivering,” he said.
