Panaji: In yet another move to keep the State green, volunteers of Goa Green Brigade have taken up the initiative to save the dying coconut trees along the Guirim National Highway.
On Sunday, 35 volunteers of Goa Green Brigade came together protect 40 coconut trees which are on the verge of dying due to lack of maintenance and dumping of debris.
Speaking to a news daily, Avertino Miranda Goa Green Brigade said he had written many letters to authorities, but there was no response.
“Goa is always described a land of swaying palms and coconut palms play an important role in our cultural ethos Advocate Caroline Colaco, a volunteer, was quoted saying.
The coconut palms have been lying untouched for a long time raising serious concerns among citizens because of the fallen palm leaves on the National Highway.
