Panaji: Despite protest by the locals, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said that the state government is determined to go ahead with the proposed IIT project at Sattari taluka.

The IIT campus is planned at Shel-Maulim in Sattari taluka, which has been opposed by the locals.

Sawant said that the state government has not scrapped the project, while the formalities for its construction are going on.

“We are ready to discuss the demands of the locals. I had visited the village and toured the entire place. During my visit, I had told them that government is ready to accept each and every demand of theirs,” the chief minister said.

The villagers have been protesting at the site every day since last four months, stopping the work of surveying the place for construction of IIT.

Responding to a question, Sawant said that the police outpost is being set up in the village as a part of IIT campus planning.

“The IIT campus has to have a police outpost. We are setting up the facility there as a part of the project,” he said.
