Panaji : March 9, 2020

Governor of Goa, Shri Satya Pal Malik has extended greetings on the occasion of Holi.

Governor in his message expressed that, Holi is considered as one of the most revered and celebrated festivals of India and it is celebrated in almost every part of our country. It is also sometimes called as the “festival of love” as on this day people get united, forgetting all resentments towards each other. It is celebrated with the name ‘Holika Dahan’ or ‘Choti Holi’ on the previous evening of the festival, and the following day is called Holi, a festival of colours.

He further stated that, the vibrancy of colors is something that brings in a lot of positivity in our lives and Holi being the festival of colours is actually a day worth rejoicing. Holi is a prominent and favourite festival because everyone irrespective of religion, caste and creed celebrates this festival with utmost joy and enthusiasm. The ritual starts by lighting up the bonfire one day before the day of Holi, this process symbolizes the triumph of good over the bad. This being the last festival as per the Hindu Calendar, it is said that every person must give up on all the bad vices, hatred, jealousy  etc, and begin the coming new year with a new hope and zeal, such is the message of this festival. It is also a festival that promotes brotherhood, mutual understanding, social solidarity and national integration, Governor added.
