Gold theft case during marriage ceremony busted, one arrested, minor boy missing

Panaji: Police on Monday arrested a man at Gujarat while his accomplice who is minor in age is on the run busting the gold theft case reported when marriage ceremony was on in  Panaji, last week.

The CCTV footage of a minor boy lifting the bag containing gold worth Rs 30 lakh during a marriage ceremony had gone viral on social media. The family members had also lodged a complaint with Panaji police against unknown accused for theft of the gold.

Panaji police spokesman said that 24-year-old accused Savant Sisodia originally hailing from Madhya Pradesh was arrested from Surat in Gujarat after his involvement in the theft was noticed through CCTV footage.

He said the minor boy who actually lifted the bag from the marriage ceremony is missing, while search is on to track him down.

Police during the investigation found that Savant’s location was at Surat in Gujarat after which the team was sent to arrest him.

He was arrested in Gujarat and brought on a transit remand to Goa and has been currently remanded to five days police custody, the spokesman said.

Police are yet to recover the gold as it is with the minor boy who is missing.
