Panaji: The Goa government on Wednesday said the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Water Metro and inland water transport network is under preparation, while a feasibility study for the project has already been completed.
River Navigation Minister Subhash Phal Dessai said the government has not yet received the DPR, as it is being prepared by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL).
Replying to an unstarred question tabled by MLA Yuri Alemao in the Goa Legislative Assembly, Dessai said KMRL has completed the feasibility study and submitted its report to the state government.
The government has proposed a Water Metro/inland water transport network covering nine routes and around 111 km of waterways.
The minister said the “realistic estimated cost” of the project will be known only after the DPR is submitted. The funding pattern, including Central assistance and the state’s contribution, will also be decided thereafter.
A traffic and transport study assessing the likely impact of the proposed Water Metro on road congestion, vehicular traffic, fuel consumption, travel time and carbon emissions is also part of the DPR being prepared by KMRL, he said.
Regarding the proposed pilot or phase-wise implementation, the government said details will be finalised through the DPR process.
Dessai also said consultations with local bodies, riverine communities, fishermen, tourism stakeholders and other concerned groups will be considered while preparing the DPR.
