Goa registers highest deaths for a day on Sunday, CM says vaccination will tackle the problem

Panaji: With eleven people succumbing to the COVID-19 infection on a single day on Sunday, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the issue will be tackled after a maximum of the people above the age group of 45 years are vaccinated.

State on Sunday received 1.5 (one lakh fifteen thousand) Covid-19 doses from the centre.

Sawant said that the state has already vaccinated two lakh people who are above the age group of 45 and also Healthcare workers and Covid warriors.

“There are 4.5 lakh people who are 45 years old and above. We have received 1.5 lakh vaccines today. We can manage to vaccinate maximum people in that group then the complications would be reduced and we would be able to tackle the virus,” Chief Minister said.

State Health Department on Sunday said that eleven people had succumbed to the infection on a single day with six of them dying at Goa Medical College and Hospital, four at South Goa District Hospital and one at Hospicio Hospital in Margao city.

 Meanwhile, State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane thanked the centre for providing 1.5 lakh vaccines on Sunday.

In a media statement released here Rane said  “Grateful to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, Hon’ble Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan Ji & Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India for sanctioning 1.5L doses of Covid vaccine for Goa.”

“The Health Department is working incessantly to ensure we achieve our goal of vaccinating all the eligible beneficiaries,” he added
