Goa Police Secures Conviction in 21 Out of 23 Cases After Introduction of BNS

Panaji: Goa Police on Wednesday announced that since the introduction of new criminal laws, they have secured convictions in 21 out of 23 cases that were chargesheeted under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

A police spokesperson stated that since the enforcement of these new criminal laws, Goa Police have registered 1,232 cases under BNS. In 544 cases, a report was sent to the court under Section 193 of BNSS upon completion of the investigation, while other cases remain under investigation.

The spokesperson further informed that out of the 23 cases where trials have been completed and judgments delivered, 21 resulted in convictions, while two ended in acquittals. Convictions were secured in six cases of house break-ins, five cases of auto thefts, three cases of causing obstruction in a public way, two cases of theft by an employee, one case of kidnapping and rape, and one case of hurt.
