Goa Police detain 11 persons wanted by Hyderabad police, rescue two victims

Panaji: Goa Police on Saturday detained eleven accused who had kept hostage two persons in the coastal state (Goa) asking them for ransom.

Superintendent of Police (North) Nidhin Valsan told reporters on Saturday evening that the FIR of extortion was filed with Hyderabad police.

He said that the accused were demanding Rs 3.5 crore to Rs 4 crore with Jayram Kumar to release both the victims, who were working with him.

“The accused and complainant were involved in mining related activities due to which the issue erupted between them,” the SP said adding that most of the accused are from Goa, while one is from Hyderabad.

Valsan said that Goa Police had received information about the accused from Hyderabad police. “State police formed the team and tracked down the accused at Bambolim area (near Panaji),” he said.

The SP said that the main accused Altaf Sayyad was detained along with ten other accused and rescued both the victims.

Sayyad was also accused in another case and was being investigated for his involvement with banned organization called PFI (Popular Front of India), he said.

Valsan said that all the accused would be handed over to Hyderabad police for further investigation.
