Panaji: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Tuesday said that the state government is working overtime to augment the oxygen supply of its hospitals, amidst a rise in the number of cases.

Rane told reporters that chief minister Pramod Sawant has been personally monitoring the entire exercise to increase the oxygen supplies to these hospitals.

The minister said that the state government will be installing two oxygen plants under the PM Care fund in the state, which will address the majority requirement of the hospitals.

Rane said that the oxygen supply in Goa Medical College and Hospital near here (which is the biggest facility in the state) was designed considering the requirement of the past.

“No one expected that such a huge requirement of oxygen would arise in near future. After the pandemic has hit, we are improving the supplies of GMCH on war-footing,” he said.

He said that the new Super Speciality Block of GMCH, which will be converted into Covid-19 hospital in the next couple of days, has all the facilities including oxygen supplies keeping in mind the futuristic requirements.

The minister said that the state government has been encouraging more oxygen generation plants so that there is excess availability in the state.
