Goa covers 95 per cent of beneficiaries under PMGKAY: Govind Gawade

Panaji: Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, which was extended till November month, has impressive coverage of  more than 95 per cent in Goa, the minister said on Tuesday.

State Civil Supplies Minister Govind Gawade said that Goa has achieved a coverage of more than 95 per cent for PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana  (PMGKAY) since it was launched in March this year, as a relief during lockdown time.

“We will continue having similar coverage till November reaching out to the maximum people,” he said.

Civil Supplies Department has initiated a special campaign to cover maximum beneficiaries of this scheme, the minister said.

Goa has around four lakh people who are eligible under this key central scheme launched to help people during COVID-19.

Gawade said that in the month of April the coverage of 97.32 per cent while it went up to 99.75 per cent in May, 2020.

The minister said that the coverage might slightly reduce in June month, but would cross 90 per cent of the mark.

“Designation of Containment zones in various parts of the state due to COVID-19 outbreak will affect the supplies. But we have made sure that there are door deliveries of the supplies under this scheme with the help of District Administration to those needy people who are stuck in the Containment zones,” he said.

Gawade said that local bodies like Panchayats joined hands with the Civil Supplies department to ensure that maximum people are benefitted with this scheme.
