Porvorim: The Goa Cabinet on Saturday adopted a resolution congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 25 years in public service as head of government, while citing over Rs 32,226 crore in central assistance and sanctioned works as part of the state’s development journey during this period.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant read out the resolution after the Cabinet meeting, placing on record the state government’s appreciation of Modi’s public service, which began with his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001, followed by his tenure as Prime Minister from May 26, 2014.
The resolution highlighted the Centre’s support for Goa in infrastructure, connectivity, higher education, healthcare and basic services, and acknowledged the role of cooperation between the Union and state governments in advancing development.
According to the resolution, Goa received Rs 10,457.45 crore under Centrally Sponsored Schemes between the 2014-15 and 2026-27 financial years, while Rs 5,133.12 crore was provided as 50-year interest-free loans under the Scheme for Special Assistance for Capital Investment (SASCI) during the 2020-21 to 2026-27 period.
In addition, the Centre sanctioned works worth Rs 16,636 crore under the National Highways programme, taking the total assistance and sanctioned works cited in the resolution to Rs 32,226.57 crore.
The Cabinet also highlighted major infrastructure projects, including the New Zuari Bridge, Mopa Airport Road, Atal Setu over the Mandovi River, Porvorim flyover, Manohar Bypass at Canacona and the Madgaon Western Bypass.
The projects listed in the resolution, along with other works, represent an aggregate investment of approximately Rs 7,436 crore, it said.
The resolution also noted that Goa received Rs 145 crore in central support under the Jal Jeevan Mission and became the first state to achieve Har Ghar Jal status.
In higher education, it cited the establishment and strengthening of institutions such as IIT Goa, the All India Institute of Ayurveda, the new campus of NIT Goa and the National Forensic Sciences University.
The Cabinet also referred to the Centre’s financial support for healthcare infrastructure, including a super-speciality hospital block costing Rs 297 crore and a tertiary cancer centre costing Rs 200 crore. The two projects together represent an investment of Rs 497 crore, with a central share of Rs 150 crore, according to the resolution.
The resolution listed several national initiatives undertaken during Modi’s tenure, including the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, Ayushman Bharat, Swachh Bharat Mission, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Digital India, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Make in India and Startup India.
It also acknowledged the emphasis on cooperative federalism and partnership between the Centre and states, stating that the country’s development was best advanced through collective efforts.
Through the resolution, the Goa Cabinet extended its congratulations and best wishes to Modi, acknowledged his contribution to national development and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to working with the Centre towards the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The Cabinet also expressed confidence that cooperative federalism, innovation, inclusive development and citizen participation would strengthen India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.
