Goa Cabinet Approves State Library Policy Ahead of World Book Day

Panaji: State government on Wednesday approved the Goa Library Policy which will encourage the updation of the librarians, while encouraging reading habit amongst the citizens of the state.
Addressing a press conference after chairing the state cabinet meeting, chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that under this policy, the concept of e-libraries would be introduced across the state, in the existing libraries.
He said that almost all the panchayat bodies have one library each which is managed by State Art and Culture Department.
The chief minister said that the Library Policy will cover all these libraries encouraging reading habit amongst the citizens and also making available books of competitive exams for the readers and the students.
He said that the existing libraries would be upgraded with the concept of e-libraries and also librarians would be given the training.
The chief minister said that 90 libraries would be taken up as e-libraries during the first phase, the work for which has already started. He said that 10-12 libraries are already converted into e-libraries under state government initiative.
Sawant said that the decision on State Library Policy was taken on Wednesday, on the eve of World Book Day which will be celebrated on Thursday.
