Panaji: The Goa cabinet on Monday approved a new scheme that significantly increases the wages of daily wage workers employed across government departments, state-run corporations, autonomous bodies, and local bodies.

Addressing a press conference, Chief minister Pramod Sawant said that the hike is a part of the announcement made by him in the state budget.

He said that the in-hand hike for the daily wage labourer would be up to 51 per cent, which is a significant rise from the renumeration they were paid earlier.
Sawant said that around 3,000 workers employed with government departments, corporations, autonomous bodies and local bodies will benefit from this scheme.
He said that the revision of the renumeration will burden the state coffers by Rs four crores, annually.

Sawant said that all the daily wage workers who have completed seven years of their service would be eligible for this scheme.

The revised scheme also allows them to have other benefits like leaves and contribution for Employee Provide Funds, the chief minister said.

“The workers will also get annual three per cent increment in their salaries,” he said, adding that the scheme will be in effect from August 01, 2025.

“Currently, a daily wage labourer gets around Rs 12,818 per month. With the implementation of this scheme, he will earn Rs 20,000 per month along with EPF contribution,” the chief minister said.

The workers will also be eligible for central government’s Atal Pension Yojana, PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, he added.
