Valpoi: Taking note of the feat by young farmer Shyam Gaonkar from Satrem village for growing strawberries in Goan soil and climate, Health Minister and Valpoi MLA Vishwajit Rane on Monday congratulated. Rane also wished Gaonkar good luck and assured support for his future endeavours.
“Delighted to know that a young and dynamic farmer from Satrem village, Shyam Gaonkar has grown strawberries in his field at Sattari. I wish him the best and my total support for all his future endeavours,” Rane wrote in a tweet.
It may be recalled that Gaonkar, who had attended a workshop in Mhabaleshwar, had brought saplings of strawberries with him. He had planted the strawberry saplings in October and after a month and a half he is now finally his field is yielding strawberries defying that Goan climate is not suitable for growing strawberries.
“The Goan Climatic condition is very much suits for the strawberry plajntation. I have done the strawberry plantation in my field, while planting the around thousand sampling of strawberry. All the saplings of strawberry are okay and now slowly slowly they are giving yields,” Gaonkar said.

The story was exclusively reported by GNH correspondent Devendra Gaonkar on Sunday.
