Adv. Aires Rodrigues has today demanded that the Goa Government should as a matter of priority fill up those now vacant posts of 27 Deputy Superintendent of Police ( Dy.SP ) in view of the rapid deteriorating law and order situation in the State.
Pointing out that the Goa Police has a sanctioned strength for 40 (Dy. SPs), Adv. Rodrigues has stated that very surprisingly currently 27 of these posts are lying vacant on account of which officers are holding multiple assignments and are unable to do justice to their job.
Citing the example of Quepem Dy.SP Kiran Poduval who is also holding charge at Margao with yet another additional charge at the South Goa headquarters, Adv. Rodrigues has stated that in violation of their Human Rights the Police officers cannot be overburdened as it would have an adverse effect on their health and efficiency while also the wellbeing and welfare of their families neglected.
Stating that some politicians while eyeing huge monetary gains want to recruit some Dy. SPs by direct recruitment. Adv. Rodrigues has sought that in the interest of good policing, only Police Inspectors should be promoted as Dy.SPs, this rank being their next promotion in accordance with the law.
Pointing out that good policing is a complex issue and that experience and expertise comes only after years of active service in various roles and situations. Adv. Rodrigues has stated that the direct recruits would have to undergo years of training and it would take them another many years to learn the law, rules, regulations and procedures.
Stating that promoting Police inspectors as Dy.SPs would also have a negligible financial implication on the State exchequer, Adv. Rodrigues has further stated that bringing in direct recruits would also have an adverse effect on the morale of the current Police Inspectors who after years of service have been looking forward to their next promotion as a Dy. SP.
Adv. Rodrigues has also demanded that there is an urgent need to weed out from the Goa Police at all levels anyone who has the faintest link with the Criminal mafia.
Adv. Rodrigues has expressed the confidence that Chief Secretary Parimal Rai and DGP Mukesh Kumar Meena would take appropriate steps to ensure that the Rule of Law, fair play and recognition of our police force without any undue influence from outside, prevails in Goa at all times.
Adv. Rodrigues has expressed confidence that it is only a well equipped, well resourced, well rewarded, police force with a high morale that will ensure the safety and security of the State and its people.
