Elderly couple from Matunga, Mumbai drowned at Candolim, another woman serious

Candolim: An elderly couple from Matunga-Mumbai died due to drowning at Candolim beach on Friday, while another woman was saved from drowning and is currently admitted in Goa Medical College and hospital.

Police said that a group of elderly people from Mumbai were on a holiday in Goa when incident happened.

A senior police official said that the incident happened at 11 am when the entire group of fourteen people was holidaying on Candolim beach in North Goa.

Two couples from the group had gone for a walk on the beach when three of them were swept away with the waves and got drowned.

“Local people who were at the beach rescued one of them, later identified as Kalpana Satish Parekh (68), from the waters,” he said adding that the woman was immediately shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital.

Two others, Prakash K Doshi (73) and Harshita Doshi (69), got drowned in the sea. The Tourist Police and Lifeguards crew responded to the incident, and victims were fished out from the water and later shifted to Candolim Primary Health Centre (PHC) where two of them were declared dead on arrival by doctor on duty.
