Taxi operators led by Sudip Tamhankar protested today at Junta house alleging that Director of Transport is inefficient to address their grievances.
Tamhankar said, “on 19 July we had given notice to Govt. explaining the issues with respect to installation of meters. We had told them Taxis coming from out of state are not regularized, there was ambiguity regarding whether they need to install meters. After which we even approached the court”.
“Recently, there was a law and order issue with respect to a Taxi which had come from Maharashtra,  taxi operators in Goa called the police and he was taken to the Police station from Dabolim where he had come to drop his customers. Once again the same taxi operator from Maharashtra had to face local taxi operators and a subsequent police complaint in Baga. This would have not happened if Government of Goa had regularized taxis coming from out of state,” said Tamhankar
“We have given 600 representations to Government of Goa, CM Pramod Sawant who claimed that Bhumiputra bill was introduced as 500 locals from Canacona had approached him with their grievances related to land should now answer to 600 representations of taxi operators,” said Tamhankar.
He further charged that, Taxi operators are in dilemma because on one hand Transport minister Mauvin Godinho says taxi permits have been cancelled and on the other hand CM Pramod Sawant says they are not. “What can the taxi operators do when such contradictory statements come from government,” asked Tamhankar.
