Covid restrictions imposed on Holi, Easter, Shab-e-Barat, Eid

In a major decision, Goa government has imposed local restrictions in the celebrations of  Holi, Shab-e-Barat, Easter and Eid-ul-Fitr to avoid spread of COVID-19 infection in the state.

Under Secretary (Health) Gautami Parmekar, in an order issued on Friday has pointed out that there is a fresh surge in COVID-19 cases in some parts of the country and the situation might further aggravate in view of the upcoming festivals such as Holi, Shab-e-Barat, Easter and Eid-ul-Fitr etc anticipating gatherings, congregations, and public celebrations.

The order reads that State government has issued various orders/instructions from time to time to all authorities to take all the required measures to deal with the situation appropriately.

“In order to contain further spread of covid19 during festivities such as Holi, , Shab-e-Barat, Easter and Eid-ul-Fitr etc, the government hereby imposes local restrictions in observation of these festivals as contained in the SOP of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,” it reads.

The order also reads “all the authorities concerned shall ensure that public celebrations and gatherings, congregations during these upcoming festivals like Holi, Shab-e-Barat, Navarati etc shall not be allowed in public places, grounds, markets etc in the state of Goa.

The department has asked District Collectors and Superintendent of Police shall ensure compliance of this SOP and other instructions issued by the Government from time to time.
