COVID-19 vigil stepped up at BITS Pillani Goa campus after 24 students test positive

Vasco: The South Goa District Administration has ordered COVID-19 test to be conducted on all the students, teachers, faculty and those who have come in close contact with the affected persons at BITS Pillani campus near Vasco town after 24 cases of infection was reported.

In an order issued here on Thursday, Deputy Collector of Vasco Dattaraj Gauns Dessai has said that a cluster of 24 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in students of BITS Pillai Goa Campus at Zuarinagar, near Vasco town in South Goa.

Dessai has directed Registrar of BITS Pillani Goa campus to carry out RTPCR Test of all the students, teachers, faculty and those who have come close contact with the affected persons and take every precautionary measures as laid down in the COVID-19 protocol so as to prevent its spread of the virus.

The District Administration has said that Home or Institutional quarantine should be assessed and followed strictly in consultation with health authorities.

“No person or transport should be allowed in the campus without checked for COVID-19 symptoms, movement of persons should be allowed only for emergency services, all persons should wear face masks at all times,” the order reads.

“Physical distance of two meters shall be maintained between the persons, classes should be conducted online for next 15 days, no gatherings should be allowed in the campus and necessary arrangements should be made of food, diet etc of the positive people,” the order adds.

Goa on Thursday reported 12 new infections taking the total toll to 24300. None of the persons had died due to infection, as per the Health department’s records.
