Panaji:  Goa on Sunday recorded 41 new cases in the state even as authorities began random testing of the people in Margao town of South Goa.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Sunday held high level meeting at Margao to review the situation after random testing in the city had begun.

The health authorities have began conducting testing at Margao’s slum areas including Azad Nagar, Moti Dongar and Khareband.

The testing was initiated after local MLA and leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat raised concerns about number of positive cases being reported from ESI hospital, a medical facility where COVID-19 patients are treated.

On Sunday, the cases were reported from New Vaddem, Baina and Sada in South Goa while Morlem and Chimbel in North Goa, health official said.

He said that out of 1967 samples were tested, 1621 are negative, 41 are positive and 305 reports are awaited.
