Convert new GMCH building into COVID-19 treatment facility, restore present infrastructure to other illnesses: Rohan Khaunte

Panaji: Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has demanded that the new building of GMCH should be converted into exclusive COVID-19 facility while restoring the present infrastructure to treat other ailments.

Khaunte also demanded that Disaster Management Act should be invoked to cap the rates charged at private hospitals and also take the private facilities, if required, to treat the patients. He also said that the management of COVID-19 facility should be handed over to Army Corps, after converting the new GMCH building.

The Porvorim MLA alleged that Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has stooped to the lowest level by transferring medical officer from Porvorim to Sanguem. He said that while Sanguem has enough of medical officers, the PHC at Porvorim has been handed over to the officer from Candolim as an additional charge.

He said that the COVID-19 treatment should be covered under Dayanand Social Security Scheme. “Government can issue one order and than cover COVID-19 under DDSSY,” Khaunte added.

The Porvorim MLA pointed out that Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had made the statement about incentivizing the plasma donation by offering free medical check up for a year for the donors and their families. “But the announcement has remained only on the paper,” he said.

POLITICS OVER MEDICAL OFFICER AT PHC PORVORIM

Khaunte said that the medical officer from Porvorim was transferred because he could not attend the online meeting with the CM. He said that CM bypassed Health Minister while ordering for the transferred.

“I wonder whether medical officer was transferred because he was not giving NOC for the illegal construction at Succoro. I find that there is link with Calangute MLA who has played a major role to keep his cronies happy in Porvorim constituency,” he added.

“Don’t play with the covid warriors. This will demotivate the doctors. CM should have a broader mind to handle with situation. If anything happens in Porvorim, then CM and HM with their cronies will be responsible. We need full time doctor to handle the requirement of Porvorim PHC,” he said.

GOVERNMNET PROMOTES PRIVATE HOSPITALS

The State government only promotes the private hospitals. The MLAs and prominent people are going to private hospitals because they don’t have faith in GMCH. The rate which they have identified is more than the five star hotel. The hospital room Rs 18,000 and additional charges. Will the common man be able to get these facilities?, Khaunte questioned.

He said that under Disaster Management Act 2005, government has powers to act in all conditions as this pandemic has been identified as a disaster. Even after Government takes over or rates are capped, important is availability of beds, doctors and specially nurses to attend to the patients.
